The three point hitch hydraulics will not lift although the front end loader lifts fine. What should I look for and where?

I've got to respond in general since I don't know the tractor. I'm assuming that the loader and 3ph had been working, no recent work was done on the hydraulic system, the lift simply stopped working and there is no movement without a load on it. I also assume that the 3ph or loader could be used without changing a diverter valve and that the loader valve assembly is a power-beyond type that has two return lines, and the 3ph is a position control type.

The easiest fix would be if one of the loader valves wasn't centred. In the type hookup I assumed use of any loader valve prevents the 3ph from working. I'd jiggle the loader valves and then check that the loader isn't creeping when the valves are centred and the tractor is at high RPM. I'd also check the diverter valve to make sure it's fully in the auxiliary system position.

Another fairly easy fix is if the linkage is not moving the control valve. The quadrant lever can be operated, and the valve control arm should move. On some tractors, the control valve spool valve end can be seen with minor disassembly. The spool must be depressed for the 3ph to lift. By the same token, the poppet valve must be released for lift to occur. Bent, broken or seriously out of adjustment could cause the problem.

A strong candidate for the problem is the unload valve. The valve is part of the control valve assembly. Initial pressure when the control valve opens causes the unload valve to close. If it remains open no lift pressure can develop. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to tell if the unload valve is stuck.

Hitches have there own safety relief valves that do cause lift problems if they fail. The failures I've heard of result in a 3ph that is extremely weak but does move slowly.

Hope this helps some. A couple of the suggestions might are easy enough and might fix the problem. I'm aware that other suggestions would take manuals and require a tear-down.
